Getting around the City of Perth doesn't need to cost you anything!
The modern CAT buses running on three routes are a free service providing convenient travel around the city.
CAT bus stops have distinctive stands and real-time passenger information that tells you when the next bus is due.
The City of Perth contributes to the operation of the CAT bus services in order to provide a free service to visitors and reduce traffic congestion.
A Free Transit Zone (FTZ) also operates within the City of Perth boundaries. You can travel on any Transperth bus within the boundary limits for free.
FTZ signposts are displayed on the route limits. For travel outside the FTZ, you may purchase a ticket from the driver or purchase a SmartRider from the Perth Railway Station on Wellington Street or selected outlets.
You need to have a SmartRider in order to access the FTZ using any of the train services, but you will not be charged if your journey is within the FTZ boundaries.
When travelling by train, the FTZ boundaries are City West on the Fremantle line and Claisebrook on the Midland and Armadale lines. To travel in these zones passengers are required to hold a valid Smartrider ticket or a two section ticket.
Tickets may be purchased from machines at each train station, or you can validate your Smartrider before entering the train - Remember to tag off when you reach your destination to ensure you don't get charged for the journey!
