Homeless Connect Perth
What is Homeless Connect?
The Homeless Connect project is about providing a “one stop shop” of essential and ongoing services to homeless persons or those at risk of homelessness by bringing together community groups, businesses and the three tiers of Government.
Homeless Connect Perth is based on the “one-stop-shop” model of service provision to homeless people that was developed in San Francisco in 2004.
Homeless connect events are now being held in over 200 cities across the United States, Canada and Australia (Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Gold Coast). Brisbane City Council piloted Homeless Connect in November 2006 for the first time in Australia.
Homeless Connect Australia, an initiative of the Council of Capital City Lord Mayors, has been established to give every City, Town and Community the opportunity to join the Homeless Connect Australia Program and work to helping the homeless take a step on the path out of homelessness.
The City of Perth has now run successfully 4 homeless connect projects in partnership with Volunteering WA, the first being in November 2008.
The Next Event
The date for the next Homeless Connect Perth project will be announced in May 2012.
