The Women and Safety Study, undertaken in 2004, analysed actual crime and the perceptions of safety of women who live, work and visit the City of Perth on a street by street basis. The study involved identifying safety and security issues for a range of women including youth, seniors, residents, workers, students, backpackers and women with disabilities through a series of after dark safety audits. A range of actions to improve actual and perceptions of safety were recommended. The initiative was the recipient of an Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award in 2004.
